NEWS: Powerscourt appoints Andy Smith as head of the firm’s Banks team

Andy has joined Powerscourt after a decade with Santander where he oversaw all the external media communications and financial calendar work in the UK, highlights of which include the mergers and subsequent integration of Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley and the launch of the Santander brand in the UK. Prior to Santander, Andy worked for various PR Agencies, supporting banks and asset managers (Citibank/Alliance & Leicester/Barclays/Cater Allen/Tesco Bank) as well as wider Financial Services clients (Prudential/Scottish Widows/Direct Line/GAM).

At Powerscourt, Andy will be responsible for looking after and growing the firm’s substantial banking franchise, which includes Credit Suisse, CYBG/Virgin Money and Cynergy Bank UK, as well as Bank of Cyprus and Piraeus Bank – Greece’s largest bank.

Justin Griffiths, Partner and Head of Financial Services at Powerscourt, commented: “Andy is a superb hire for us. His specialist knowledge and in-house experience with one of the UK’s biggest banking brands will be invaluable as we look to expand our impressive franchise in this area. Andy joins us at a time of sustained growth for Powerscourt. Over the past few months we have built and launched new teams in investor relations and corporate campaigns, made senior hires to our fast-growing Industrials team and expanded our team in Dublin. We’ve made a strong start to 2019 and look forward to further growth this year.”

Andy Smith added: “Powerscourt was an agency very much on my radar when I was in-house due to its strong reputation with the media and recent years of rapid growth. The work the team did on the successful CYBG/Virgin Money deal last year was exceptional and I look forward to working with them to deliver further growth in 2019.”
