STEPHEN O’BRIEN, FORMER POLITICAL EDITOR AT SUNDAY TIMES IRELAND, JOINS POWERSCOURT

Powerscourt announces a significant hire to its Dublin office with the appointment of Stephen O’Brien as a Senior Consultant. Previously one of the most prominent political journalists in Ireland, Stephen will work with a range of Powerscourt clients providing them with expert public affairs and communications advice as part of the firm’s fast growing local team led by Eavan Gannon.

Stephen recently stood down following 20 years as Political Editor at the Sunday Times in Ireland. During his time, he broke a series of stories on the Irish government’s pandemic planning through the course of the Covid crisis. Prior to working at the Sunday Times, Stephen worked at the Irish Daily Star and as News Editor and Social Affairs correspondent at the Irish Independent.

Stephen has reported from Washington, Brussels and Belfast and interviewed innumerable Irish government ministers, opposition leaders and every Taoiseach since Bertie Ahern. He co-ordinated and led The Sunday Times’ coverage of five Irish general elections and many mid-term council and European votes. He brings a wealth of experience from the coalface of Irish politics.

Stephen O’Brien commented: “I am delighted to be joining Powerscourt. The firm is the pre-eminent adviser in Dublin and the team’s drive and ambition meant it was an obvious place for me to begin the next stage of my career. I am delighted to be working with Eavan and the wider team and look forward to helping to grow the agency and help businesses, leaders and their ideas to be better understood by key audiences both at home and abroad.”

Rory Godson, Chief Executive of Powerscourt, said: “We are delighted that Stephen has chosen to join Powerscourt. He is a man of vast experience, great judgement and unimpeachable integrity which has led to exceptional relationships across the political spectrum and throughout the public sector. In addition, he has a profound understanding of the media in Ireland.

“He will be a huge addition to Powerscourt where he joins a strong team in Dublin led by Eavan Gannon offering advice to both domestic clients and international companies looking for opportunities in Ireland.”
